Wordpress SEO Friendly URLs

By default WordPress uses web URLs which have question marks and lots of numbers in them, which is not good for S.E.O. (Search Engine Optimization). Fortunately Wordpress offers you the ability to create a custom URL structure using Permalinks in your Admin area.
To view our Wordpress demo site with a custom theme installed, please click on the thumbnail to the right. Here you can see how the Search Engine Friendly URL's function, using the custom structure /%category%/%postname%/ option listed below.
First step is to login to the admin area of your Wordpress blog site by pointing your browser to http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin (where "yourdomain" is your actual domain name). Once you have logged into the Admin area of your Wordpress blog, navigate to
Options > Permalinks. 
Here you can choose what sort of URL structure you wish to use, there are several options available.
Default - http://wordpress.ausweb.com.au/?p=123
Date and Name based - http://wordpress.ausweb.com.au/2007/10/02/sample-post/
Numeric - http://wordpress.ausweb.com.au/archives/123
You can also choose to use custom structure where you specify how the URL will be written by combining several custom tags.
Custom tags include:
%year%
- The year of the post, four digits, for example 2004
%monthnum%
- Month of the year, for example 05
%day%
- Day of the month, for example 28
%hour%
- Hour of the day, for example 15
%minute%
- Minute of the hour, for example 43
%second% - Second of the minute, for example 33
%postname%
- A sanitized version of the title of the post. So “This Is A Great Post!” becomes “this-is-a-great-post” in the URI
%post_id%
- The unique ID # of the post, for example 423
%category%
- A sanitized version of the category name. Nested sub-categories appear as nested directories in the URI.
%author%
- A sanitized version of the author name.
