Written by Website Tutorials

You can set the following system-wide preferences:
  • The length of interface button labels,
  • Default interface language and skin that will be used for control panel sessions initiated by other users,
  • Administrator's interface language and skin,
  • Allowance of multiple simultaneous sessions under administrator's login,
  • To avoid errors, you can choose to prevent users from working with the control panel until interface screens are completely loaded. While the control panel interface is being loaded, all interface controls will be unavailable and the "Loading. Please wait." message box will appear on the screen.
  • Your host name,
  • Checking for mailboxes passwords in the dictionary to ensure they are not easy to guess,
  • Server-wide statistics parameters.

To set the server-wide preferences follow these steps:

  1. Click the Preferences icon on the Server administration page. The Server preferences page appears.

  2. Adjust the settings as required, and click OK to submit.

Setting Up Your Logo

You may replace the default Plesk logo in the top banner area with your own logo, which can be linked to your organization's web site. To change the logo on the interface, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Logo Setup icon on the Server administration page. The Logo Setup page appears:

  2. Click in the Choose new logo file text box and enter the name of the logo file you wish to use, or click the Browse... button and locate the desired file.

    NOTE

You should use a GIF, JPEG or PNG format file for your logo, preferably not larger than 100 kilobytes to minimize the download time. It is recommended that you use an image of 50 pixels in height.

  3. You have the option to create a hyperlink that activates when a user clicks on your logo. The link may take the user to a corporate URL or other web site. Click in the Enter new logo link URL box. Type in the URL.

  4. Click OK to submit.

If you change your mind and wish to revert to the Plesk logo, use the Default Logo button.

Customizing the User Interface

Since Plesk 7.5.5, in addition to the limits you impose on resource usage, you can restrict user access to specific interface elements of the Plesk control panel. This way you can disallow the control panel users to use the features you do not want them to use. The users will not even know about them, because you will hide them.

You can choose to hide a set of buttons (such as those related to accessing My.Plesk.com services or all buttons that are grayed out because service is unavailable/not installed), or individual controls on specific screens.

Note

You should not rely on the control hiding capabilities for security, and disable sensitive features by other means existing in Plesk instead of or in addition to hiding controls.

Hiding and Unhiding Individual Interface Elements

  1. Click the Server shortcut in the navigation pane, and then click the Interface management icon in the Control panel group.

  2. Select the Show interface management toolbar check box and click OK. The toolbar appears in the bottom right frame.

  3. Navigate through the control panel to the screen that shows the interface elements you want to hide/unhide.

  4. Click the Customize button on the toolbar to enable the customization mode.

  5. Click on the interface element that you want to hide or show. A drop-down menu opens.

    • To hide the element from all control panel users including yourself, select the Hide option.

    • To hide the element from all users except yourself, select the Admin only option.

    • To make the element visible to the users who would normally be able to see it, select the Show option.

    • To discard any customizations you made to the selected element, select the Default option.

  6. Click the OK button on the toolbar to submit the settings. The toolbar will be closed and you will exit the customization mode.

Hiding and Unhiding the Grayed out Buttons

Basically, for each service that is not installed in the server's operating system and therefore is not manageable through the control panel, Plesk shows a grayed out icon and the appropriate message in the context help tips area of the navigation pane.

To show or hide any grayed out controls,

  1. Click the Server shortcut in the navigation pane, and then click the Interface management icon in the Control panel group.

  2. Select (clear) the Hide all unavailable buttons check box for hiding (unhiding) and click OK.

Hiding and Unhiding groups of buttons

If you do not want your customers to access the domain registration and other services, you can hide all related control panel elements in a few clicks. The following button groups are available for control:

  • buttons for domain registration,
  • buttons for SSL certificate purchasing,
  • buttons for extra My.Plesk.com services,
  • mail bouncing controls (for controlling bouncing of messages addressed to non-existent mail recipient).

To hide or unhide the controls,

  1. Click the Server shortcut in the navigation pane, and then click the Interface management icon in the Control panel group.

  2. In the Button sets group, select/deselect the check boxes corresponding to the services you wish to disallow (or allow).

  3. Click OK to submit the changes.

Hiding and Unhiding from users the limits and permissions management controls they are not allowed to operate

To hide or unhide from the control panel users all permission and limits management controls that they cannot operate,

  1. Click the Server shortcut in the navigation pane, and then click the Interface management icon in the Control panel group.

  2. Select/deselect the check box labeled "Hide from users the permission management controls they are not allowed to operate".

  3. Click OK.

To hide or unhide from the control panel users all resource limit management controls that they cannot operate,

  1. Click the Server shortcut in the navigation pane, and then click the Interface management icon in the Control panel group.

  2. Select/deselect the check boxes labeled Hide all unavailable permissions and Hide all unavailable limits

  3. Click OK.
