Since AUSWEBs VPS Hosting solutions are much more robust and provide isolation from other websites hosted on the same server, large websites are generally much better off being hosted on those VPS Server hosting solutions.
In order to transfer your site from our/another hosts shared hosting servers (using cPanel) there are a few simple steps to follow to ensure that all website files, emails, settings etc are trasferred across to the VPS environment.
Pre-Transfer Checklist:
- Your current host is using cPanel
- You have cPanel working on your VPS
- You have access to the cPanel on your current host
Actions:
- Login to WHM on your VPS server.
- Click on the link "Copy an account from another server with account password"
- Enter the following information:
- Server to copy the account from (ip): IP ADDRESS
- Domain Name (only required if web root protection is enabled on the remote server): [LEAVE BLANK]
- Username to copy: [USERNAME OF ACCOUNT ON SHARED SERVER]
- User's password: [PASSWORD OF ACCOUNT ON SHARED SERVER
And now just Click "Setup" to begin the transfer
It is also possible to transfer your account from a cPanel based shared hosting to a Plesk based control panel on your VPS, but this is a much more manual process and involves downloading all your website files via FTP and uploading them to the VPS.
Email accounts, databases etc will all need to be re-created manually also. This is why we recommend customers wishing to move from a cPanel based shared hosting to VPS order the optional cPanel license with their package.
