Now that your new VPS is setup, there are just a few things that need to be done to make sure you can access your server and sites correctly.

Register Your VPS's Nameservers

This is different to just adding nameservers to a domain to point to a server. It involves you having to register the ip address(es) that we have provided you with against the nameservers that have been configured on the server.

e.g. ns1.yourdomain.com = ip: 122.255.123.456

This is done through your domain registrar and is most often referred to as adding child nameserver details. Please contact your registrar and request to have your nameservers registered using the ip details that we have provided in your hosting welcome email. Some domain registrars, including AUSWEB provide this facility in your domains management area.

Purchase a second ip for your Server

By Default your VPS only comes with one ip address and therefore one nameserver. Some domain registrars require 2 nameservers for domains to remain active and working correctly. If this is the case with your registrar, please login to your client billing area with us and order an additional ip address so we can create a second nameserver.

Transfer your sites

Transferring your sites will involve different steps depending on where you currently have the sites hosted.

If you have added cPanel/WHM to your new server and your sites are also currently hosted on a cPanel server, the easiest way is to use the cPanel backup facility and then restore the account to the new server. Before you can do this you will need to have a corresponding account already created on your new server. For instructions on this, please view the tutorial below or consult the cPanel/WHM documentation.

Troubleshooting

By default, all VPS's are unmanaged. This means it is the client's responsibility to maintain the server and its client accounts. Please take the time to view our VPS hosting tutorials section which provides many guides on managing your server. If you have also installed cPanel/WHM, please thoroughly read through the cPanel documentation to familiarise yourself with its workings. If you wish to install additional components to your server, please make sure you fully understand how it needs to be done to avoid issues. If you encounter problems when installing third party components, please remember to consult their support network as your fist step to a resolution.

If you haven't already ordered your new VPS system with AUSWEB, please follow the link below to view our options.
