Copying and Pasting HTML

As mentioned in the introduction, when elements inside Dreamweaver are copied to the clipboard, they are copied as HTML. For example, if you select an image and paste it into your text editor, the HTML code will be pasted.

This is extremely useful for extracting snippets of your code from the document.

You can take this even further. Select several elements on the page by clicking and dragging with your mouse. When you copy these, all of the HTML for your selection is copied to the clipboard. You can then paste these into another program, or back into Dreamweaver.

If you click on one of the tags in the tag list at the lower left corner, you will select the entire contents of the tag, including any tags inside. For example, if you select the <table> tag, the <tr> and the <td> tags as well as everything within them are selected. These can then be copied and pasted into another program.

You can also paste directly into Dreamweaver documents. This can be helpful if you'd like to reuse elements that have already been created.

When HTML is pasted into Dreamweaver, it is immediately rendered on the page. To do this, copy the HTML to the clipboard, open the Dreamweaver document, place your cursor where you would like the HTML to be placed, and paste.

If you wish to paste a complete document, simply copy the entire source, open a new window and paste the code directly onto the blank page (not the code window). You will then have a complete copy of the web page structure, without any images or support files.
